Welcome
As a family, we love this beef cattle business — the challenge of choosing the best genetics to raise great bulls and foundation females for our business; the task of increasing genetic efficiencies through better grazing methods; the goal of improving our grazing strategies to enhance our soil health and increase our volume of forage; and the joy of seeing our plans come to fruition and our business growing with each passing year. This is the ‘why’ we do what we do at Koonandah Station and in our view is really worth focusing on!
Koonandah Station is a highly focused grass fed, seed stock breeding operation run on family-based principles.
Our breeding and fattening operation is run with a prime focus on producing functional early maturing cattle with an emphasis on days to calving, temperament and the ability to do well in harsh conditions. Our fattening operation target weight for bullocks is 580kg at 2 years of age with 96% of all animals achieving a MSA grading.
Our goal is to assist commercial producers to bring MSA grade quality beef to the table of Australians and produce cattle that turn off the maximum kilograms of beef for age. At Koonandah we focus on producing fertile females that wean a calf every year, with a beautiful temperament which are adaptable and well-muscled cattle whilst achieving early puberty bulls.
Careful selection of sires has always been our top priority in our breeding herd. Over 30 years of genetic data has allowed us to evolve our sire selection criteria.
